MOTOR SPORT: Dean Ferris will compete at the 10th and final round of the MX Nationals at Coolum this weekend, with the MX1 title already in hand.

The CDR Yamaha rider was crowned Australian champion on Sunday, after winning both races in the penultimate event at Toowoomba.

He defended his title in style in front of thousands of spectators.

"I only just got the championship last year ... this year I really wanted to improve and be dominant," he told event media.

"So I got to work straight after the (last) season wrapped up and I was determined to improve on every aspect of my life and at the same time I made the decision that I wanted to become a dad.

"My girlfriend moved in with me, we improved the bike, my fitness, everything this year, so to get the title a round early and achieve what we have achieved, it feels amazing."

He overcame a hiccup in qualifying at Toowoomba.

"I ended up on my spare bike for that session but we were determined to stick to the plan and not let it rattle me," he said.

Kade Mosig is second in the standings.
