Festival’s the word on lips across globe

WELCOME back to Jim Berardo and Greg O'Brien from a six week road trip to Asia, New Zealand and in each state of Australia, promoting Noosa to an avid audience.

From Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Hangzhou and New Zealand, then to Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, and finally Brisbane, Jim and Greg took the Noosa International Food & Wine Festival out to hundreds of chefs, restaurateurs, media and foodies.

You could say the Noosa International Food & Wine Festival has been well and truly launched.

"It was unbelievable," Jim Berardo said.

"Everyone everywhere we went was really excited.

"Social media went mad. We promoted the festival in these countries in restaurants operated by the chefs who are coming to Noosa for our festival.

"Obviously the chefs in those countries have their own followings so that led to fans and friends of theirs promoting and pushing the event. We love showing off Noosa to the rest of the world.

"Food and wine is at the top of everyone's agenda no matter what country you live in so we were all on the same page.

"There was such strong interest in Noosa especially in China.

"There isn't much greenery there and when you show imagery of Noosa and the Sunshine Coast it is like a dream for them to think of coming here, to our fresh air, our fresh produce."

The festival, which runs from May 15-18, is the most ambitious in its 11-year history.

New events include a Tattinger Champagne breakfast on Noosa Main beach, a '60s beach party featuring with the Beach Boyz cover band, and a sunset concert at The Lookout with voluptuous Italian songstress Maria Venuti performing, followed by an eight course dinner.

All the dedicated favourites are back, from the seafood and Asian trails, cooking demonstrations by some of the world's best chefs, multi-course degustation dinners, food critics' cooking competitions, an opening night concert and party...the list goes on.

"Many of the events have sold out or are close to it," Mr Berardo said.

The final festival launch at Restaurant Two in Brisbane last week, saw Member for Noosa Glen Elmes as excited as Mr Berardo and Mr O'Brien about this year's event.

"The Noosa International Food & Wine Festival has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2003, offering a superb culinary and entertainment experience set against the stunning backdrop of Noosa," Mr Elmes said.
