Fire ravages Caboolture sawmill again

A CABOOLTURE sawmill has gone up in flames for the second time this year.

Fire fighters rushed to the Carter Holt Harvey sawmill on Henzell Rd after receiving a call just before 1.40pm.

Fire had engulfed one of the facility's sawdust processing rooms, known as the bag house.

Caboolture Fire Station Officer Bruce Ford said the structure was about 15x30m and three stories high, with several air ducts coming off it but fire fighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading.

As many as six crews worked to it under control by about 3pm, before fire fighters began removing panels from the building to spray water in and dampen down the hot spots.

"We're now in the process of taking sheeting off the roof, so that we can direct water into the top of the bag house to extinguish the flames," he said.

"We're in what we call a dampening down stage at the moment.

"Once we direct water onto all of the hot spots we'll be calling it quits.

Mr Ford said two crews fought the fire from the ground while another appliance attacked it from above and others supported.

He wasn't able to comment about the cause of the blaze.

Fire took hold at the same building in September, causing extensive damage.
