Police investigate after fire strikes Fraser Coast shops

POLICE are investigating a fire that broke out on Sunday night which caused internal damage to a number of shops on Boat Harbour Dr.

At 10.45pm police, fire services and officers from the Crime Investigation Bureau were called to the scene after witnesses reported seeing plumes of smoke coming from the Central Plaza shopping district.

Ergon Energy also attended the scene to cut off the power.

The cause of the fire, which has affected Arts and Crafts Superstore, A1 Auto and Sport First, is still being investigated.

Sgt Paul Jervis of Hervey Bay Police said they are now waiting for scientific officers to attend from Brisbane to investigate further.

"All fires are treated as suspicious until proven otherwise," he said.

The owners of the shops have all been contact and have attended the scene.

Police said no injuries have been reported.
