First business at new Kawana hospital precinct turns one

AS the Sunshine Coast University Hospital gets ready to open its wards in April next year, the Best Western Plus Lake Kawana Hotel, located opposite the hospital, celebrated its first birthday with a stylish cocktail-style event on Tuesday.

The hotel was the first business in the Kawana health precinct to open.

A six-month delay to the hospital's opening had been "a bit tough" but for the past four months the hotel had been trading well, general manager John Örning said.

"The last four months have been trading well and we anticipate this to increase further leading up to the hospital's expected opening in April 2017," he said.

More than 100 guests, clients, suppliers and loyal supporters of the hotel joined together for the celebration.

Mr Örning said the lakeside hotel was appealing to the corporate market.

Its full-service hotel concept turned out to be much-needed by local businesses, he said, and conference rooms were regularly booked for breakfast, lunch and evening functions and meetings.

The Wildflower Restaurant and Bar had become well-known and loved locally, he added.

Known for its modern décor, classy design, luxurious rooms and acclaimed customer service, the Hotel opened officially on November 16, 2015 and has quickly become a hotspot for corporate visitors to the Sunshine Coast.

"Watching this hotel start out as a construction site to morph into the Sunshine Coast's newest and only full service corporate hotel, we have been overwhelmed by the support shown by the Sunshine Coast community, and are honoured to play our part in bringing the lifestyle and medical precinct of Oceanside Kawana to fruition," Mr Örning said.

With Lake Kawana as the backdrop, our on-going mission is to provide superior guest comfort, service and facilities with confidence, to support the substantial investment and commitment made to the Best Western Plus Lake Kawana Hotel by owners, clients, guests and the Sunshine Coast community alike, he said.

"With just 12 months trading, the hotel has been proud to win and become finalists in several prestigious awards; winning the Best Western Plus Best Property Award for Australasia and finalists in both the HM Awards and Sunshine Coast Business Awards."

The hotel is also proud to have recently become a corporate partner of children's health Wishlist charity as its preferred restaurant and conference venue on the Sunshine Coast.

"We are excited to partner with Wishlist in time for the opening of the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital," Mr Örning said.
