Freedom will be a hoot for this tawny frogmouth

FREEDOM will be a hoot!

And Awesome too.

Wildlife lover Max Anderson has spent eight months teaching this tawny frogmouth, how to hunt, eat and fly.

One day soon Mr Anderson's feathery friend Awesome will reach for the skies.

"The longer you have them the more attached you get, even when you try not to," he said. "It's sad to see them go but at the end of the day that's what we're here for and you know you're doing the right thing when you release them."

Awesome has taught Mr Anderson many things, but there's more to learn.

Mr Anderson is among many animal lovers who will take part in a Gladstone and District Wildlife Carers Association workshop this weekend.

Last year the association cared for and released more than 500 birds.

Secretary Vivian Bull said it was important carers understood how they could best look after wildlife, and workshops could assist with that.

She said community members were extremely helpful in their efforts to rehabilitate birds. .
