Fun run for a serious cause

THERE'S a new reason to run on the Sunshine Coast.

An upcoming fun run has the potential to raise thousands of dollars for children needing medical attention.

All you need to do is lace up your runners.

The inaugural Run Sunshine Coast will be held on Sunday, June 29. Participants are invited to join in a 12km or 6km run, or the 6km family walk.

All funds raised from registration will go directly to Wishlist Foundation and the Cotton On Foundation will match that figure.

Wishlist will put the money towards the redevelopment of the child assessment unit at Nambour General Hospital.

Cotton On Foundation national project co-ordinator Jimmy Elkington said Run Sunshine Coast would be an event to be proud of.

"This is an incredible opportunity to get as many people involved as possible,'' he said. "The community takes ownership of the outcome. It's 100% community funded, and something they can really be proud of. Run, walk, or roll. Just get involved."

Rugby league legend Alfie Langer, surf lifesaving champion Jordan Mercer and former Olympian Raelene Boyle have signed up as ambassadors.

"Anything that's going to raise money to support a cause like that is not hard to get behind," Mr Langer said.
