Furry fashionistas at Furfamily Expo
DAISY the Rottweiler showed the other pooches how it was done as she took out the Fur Fashions on the Field.
The "dog-walk” show was part of the annual Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge and 4 Paws Walk for Awareness and Furfamily Expo that raises awareness and funds for the animal welfare organisations.
Lake Kawana was a flurry of furry bodies all morning as more than 200 dogs and their families lapped up the fashion and tricks competitions, enjoyed vet talks, ate yummy food and drink treats and explored market stalls.
SCAR manager Penny Brischke said they expected to raise around $3000, including the $500 donation from Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie, who started the walk. "We probably topped last year which we are pretty happy about,” Ms Brishke said.
"There were some great character dogs and I believe we had the full compliment of Star Wars characters.”
SCAR has been saving abandoned animals since 1979 by providing temporary care and shelter on the Sunshine Coast.
The shelter finds new homes every year, for around 1000 abandoned, abused, stray and unwanted cats and dog and ensures all animals go to suitable news homes.
As the refuge is a not for profit organisation they heavily rely on donations from the Sunshine Coast public to get them by.
