Fyfe hoping NFL and NHL tips will give him an edge

AFL: Nat Fyfe is hoping a stint training in the United States will have him back firing on all cylinders for the start of the 2017 season.

The Fremantle midfielder was the undisputed best player in the competition before suffering a season-ending knee in round nine this year.

Along with Dockers teammate Alex Pearce, Fyfe worked out at a Los Angeles facility designed for "elite athletes” from "different codes”.

"I spent some time with NHL athlete Nate Thompson (and) a former NFL linebacker, and just being able to pick their brains and ask a few things about their respective sports has been eye-opening,” Fyfe told Channel Seven.

"I guess why I came over here was to see if I could find an edge and find out a little bit about how other sports prepare and perform.

"What I found out is that, in Australia with our footy, we really have a world-class product. We're doing things pretty well.

"In saying that I have been able to find a few little tricks that will help me next year.”

Fyfe said his knee was feeling "fantastic” and would be ready to start pre-season training on Monday.
