Getaway driver used a stolen VW for break-in

A GETAWAY driver in a stolen vehicle acted as a lookout while his two mates broke into a house.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court this week, the driver, Joshua Lenard Muller, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempt to enter dwelling by break in company.

The 19-year-old Ipswich man drove a stolen Volkswagen Golf to an address in Logan Village and waited in the car while his mates got out and smashed their way into the house.

Police prosecutor Constable Daniel Swanson said Muller's co-offenders used a brick to break the sliding glass doors of the home.

The two men fled the scene after they became aware a neighbour had seen them and phoned police.

The offence took place on December 21, 2013. Investigations led police to arrest Muller in relation to the crime.

Const Swanson said the Volkswagen Muller had been driving was reported as stolen two days prior to the break-in.

Muller told police he knew the vehicle had been stolen for the purpose of being used as a getaway car.

The teenager said he had assisted his co-offenders by acting as a lookout and had arranged to beep the horn at the first sign of trouble. Muller was sentenced to six months in jail and released on immediate parole.
