Gill was running late for a very important date
SABRINA Stewart and Travis Wilks were settling in for a quiet New Year's Eve at home when someone decided to pop in.
The couple was planning a good night's sleep in readiness for the inducement of their overdue son on New Year's Day when he decided to arrive of his own accord.
"I just started to go to bed," Sabrina said.
"I went and lay down and all of a sudden, the pain started and I thought it was time to go to hospital."
Luckily, they did not waste any time leaving their Peachester home.
Gill James Wilks was born at Nambour General Hospital at 12.43am yesterday weighing 3890 grams, after a labour of only one hour and 45 minutes.
Travis encouraged Sabrina to hold on as they tried to get to hospital without breaking any speed limits.
"I was giving progress reports," he said. " 'We're half-way. Just hold on. It's only 10 minutes'," he said.
Sabrina, whose first child was born after a four-hour labour, could not offer any tips on quick deliveries to other expectant mothers.
Gill, who had been due on December 22, could not arrive soon enough for his big sister Ariel's liking.
The eight-year-old has been looking forward to a little brother to teach to walk and talk, and hoped he might have been a birthday present for her on December 23.
Instead of sharing birthdays with his sister, Gill is likely to celebrate his birthday with a few big parties in the future with some great fireworks.
