Goal attack looks forward to another season at Lightning
NETBALL: It's been less than a fortnight since Sunshine Coast claimed the Super Netball crown but goal attack Stephanie Wood is already looking forward to next year's campaign.
The 25-year-old, who was on Monday included in the Australian Diamonds squad, was a key player for the Lightning in its remarkable maiden national league campaign.
She's still savouring the grand final win over the Giants but is also among those at the club now planning for next season.
"Every now and again I kind of have to go 'gosh, we won' but we had a meeting last week...it is (now) about looking forward to 2018 and we're starting to plan things," she said.
Wood confirmed she is on a two-year contract at the club, just after captain and Super Netball player of the year Geva Mentor also told the Daily she would be back for another season.
The Lightning is favoured to win the title again but Wood said the team would not be burdened by expectation.
"Going back-to-back would be a massive accomplishment but...you don't need to put pressure on yourself. It's just about going out there and doing our job."
The rest of the roster should be revealed soon, with squads to be finalised by July 10. The season starts after the Commonwealth Games in April.
