Gold Coast roads blocked after early-morning siege

A MACHETE-wielding man is in custody after an early morning siege in the heart of Surfers Paradise party precinct brought roads to a halt.

Police declared an emergency situation at 2.20am after receiving calls that a man in an apartment on Ferny Ave was making threats.

The Bulletin understands an assault between two men had sparked the incident.

As a result of threats made by the man, police closed several of the major streets in the area including Elkhorn Ave, Ferny Ave, Surfers Paradise Boulevard and Cavill Ave.

No evacuations were made.

The situation was resolved when the man was taken into custody just before 4am.

Roads have since reopened.
