Goalsneak Nathan Brown is race ready in a Mazda3

DURING his playing days, Nathan Brown was virtually unstoppable around goal. Now he is looking to replicate that speed on the race track.

Brown is the latest addition to the drivers ready to tackle Albert Park's twists and turns at the Australian Grand Prix next month. He and the 19 other celebrities will be at the helm of the all-new Mazda3s in what is sure to be an entertaining precursor to the professionals.

We caught up with the former AFL star before he undertook driver training for the big event.

What was your first car?

It was my mum's car and she handed it down to me, it was a blue 1974 Ford Cortina.

It didn't have any windscreen wipers, the heater didn't work, neither did any of the buttons and the windows didn't roll down.

It was a real heap of crap, but it was my first car and driving it around Bendigo I thought I was pretty cool.

What are you driving now?

I am driving a BMW 320. I love everything about it, it's got satellite navigation and it's a long way from my '74 blue Cortina.

What cars did you have while growing up?

We always had Falcons so we were a Ford family. Dad always had the Falcon, we had a new one every couple of years so we had every Falcon you could name from '82 to '88.

What is your greatest frustration on the road?

When people don't wave when you let them in. I don't understand how hard it is to put a few fingers up and go "thanks for that".

Some people just refuse to have any manners out on the road.

What is your preferred driving music?

When you are excited and going to a game of footy or somewhere important I like a bit of AC/DC just to lift the mood a bit.

If you could take anyone on a road trip, who would it be?

I think my wife…I don't think anyone would put up with me for a long road trip. She is such a beautiful lady and I love her.
