More than 100 guns taken off crims after tip-offs

TIP-OFFS  to CrimeStoppers led to more than 100 illegal guns being taken out of the hands of criminals during a nationwide community operation police revealed on Thursday.

Operation Unification encouraged the community to dob gun owners in to the CrimeStoppers reporting line.

During the 15-day sting police across Australia searched 87 premises, made 52 arrests and laid 104 gun related charges.

A large number of reports have been sent to local stations to be investigated further.

An average of five calls a day were directly linked to Queensland.

Three people were charged with offences relating to weapons, drugs and explosives.

More than 80% of the information passed on to police is under investigation.
