Harris injury fails to stop fired-up Hawks
BASKETBALL: Illawarra has thumped the New Zealand Breakers 109-79, despite the Hawks losing star import Marvelle Harris to an ankle injury in the first five minutes.
The Hawks reversed the result from Friday when the Breakers beat them by 15 points in New Zealand.
The talented American's absence inspired the hosts.
Hawks coach Rob Beveridge started Cody Ellis and Kevin White in place of Rotnei Clarke and Nick Kay.
Clarke had his best performance of the season, leading six Hawks players in double digits, with 22 points.
AJ Ogilvy had a big all-round game with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four blocks.
Nick Kay (17 points), Rhys Martin (15), Mitch Norton (12) and Tim Coenraad (10) all chipped in.
Alex Pledger had 16 points and 11 boards for the visitors.
Mika Vukona earned an unsportsmanlike foul when Ogilvy hit the deck early in the second quarter, which seemed to inspire the Hawk.
Illawarra led 56-44 at half-time and 83-64 at the final break.
