HEATWAVE: Thousands hit the beach as temps rise

UPDATE 2.30PM: THOUSANDS of residents have hit the beach as temperatures creep into the thirties.

The day got off to a cloudy start but quickly cleared up for a fine and sunny day.

Beerburrum and Nambour are still currently the hottest Sunshine Coast suburbs. Both reached a maximum of 31.8 degrees earlier this afternoon.

The warm weather is perfect ice cream whether for Gelatissimo Day which was held at stores across the region.

EARLIER: It's set to be a stinker on the Sunshine Coast today with temperatures predicted to soar into the thirties.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rick Threlfall said the only saving grace on the Sunshine Coast would be that there's some wind about to cool things down.

"Seabreezes will be keeping it cooler right on the coast itself," he said.

"But the further west you go the hotter it will be."

Mr Threlfall said conditions would be "mostly sunny with a slim chance of a late afternoon storm on Saturday and Sunday".

Sunshine Coast weather forecast:

Saturday - maximum of 33 degrees

Sunday - maximum of 31 degrees

Monday - maximum of 31 degrees

Tuesday - maximum of 32 degrees

Wednesday - maximum of 32 degrees

Thursday - maximum of 30 degrees
