Help us celebrate our local war heroes for Anzac Centenary

AUSTRALIA is commemorating the Anzac Centenary from this year, and APN is looking to celebrate our own local heroes.

From 2014 to 2018, Australia will mark 100 years since the country's involvement in the First World War.

A number of important events will be observed, including the centenary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli on April 25, 2015.

APN is keen to remember courageous Australians who have fought and served in all wars, conflicts and peace operations, and especially remember the sacrifice of those who have given their lives in service.

We're encouraging readers to send us stories about their own war heroes so we can celebrate their commitment to serving the country, and honour their sacrifices.

If you have a relative you'd like everyone to know about, or are keen to share your own experiences, submit your story here.

It's a great way of ensuring the sacrifice of your loved one is passed down through the coming generations.

As part of the centenary celebrations, the Queensland Government has launched a  grants program to assist and encourage Queenslanders to commemorate the service and sacrifice of men and women during the First World War.

Throughout the centenary, grants of up to $80,000 will be available for community projects, including commemorative events, exhibitions, research, community education activities, the restoration or enhancement of memorials and more.

A total of $1 million will be available in the first round, with applications closing on March 14.

It is expected the majority of grants approved will be between $15,000 and $40,000 per project or activity.
