Bay trawler refloated after running aground at Lady Elliot

A HERVEY Bay fishing trawler has been successfully salvaged by marine authorities after running aground on the Great Barrier Reef last week.

Maritime Safety Queensland general manager Patrick Quirk said the refloating of Joseph M at 11pm on Wednesday night "couldn't have gone any better".

"We had a detailed salvage plan and everything went to plan," he said.

"She gently floated off the reef with the incoming tide. There was no pollution."

Joseph M, an 18-m vessel owned by Hervey Bay's Australian Ocean King Prawn Company, ran aground on the reef at Lady Elliot Island in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority has launched a full investigation into the incident.
