Hey Dad actor guilty on further child sex offence

EMOTIONS continued to run high in a Sydney courtroom today where disgraced actor Robert Hughes was found guilty of another child sex offence.

Fresh from his first night at Sydney's notorious Silverwater prison, the former Hey Dad! star rubbed his red eyes and reassured his wife that he was ok as he returned to the dock where he was officially branded a convicted a sex offender on Monday.

Jurors who had already returned a guilty verdict for nine of the 11 charges Hughes was facing, had been given another night to deliberate the remaining two charges.

In the end, they found there was enough evidence to find him guilty of committing an act of indecency against a child - a witness had described Hughes exposing himself and "waggling" his penis at her at Sydney's Channel Seven studios - but could not agree on whether he had incited her to commit an act of indecency.

The original verdicts related to the sexual assault and indecent treatment of three other girls in the 80s and 90s.

Hughes maintained his innocence from the moment he was extradited from the UK and charged in late 2012 right up to when the verdicts were read out this week and he screamed the words "no" and "I am innocent" from the dock.

He broke down again on today as he was led out of court and back to jail where he will remain until his sentencing hearing begins next month.
