HIGH ALERT: Sweltering temps, dangerous winds and storms

SIZZLING temperatures will be unrelenting across the Sunshine Coast the whole weekend with some parts expected to reach more than 35 degrees.

There's only a slight chance of an evening shower and storms for today and tomorrow will put a stop to the heat.

Bureau of Meteorology said while the weekend will bring a sweaty mess, Monday will be far cooler.

"Today is going to be particularly hot, especially inland. On the Coast it will be at least 32, then inland places like Nambour, 35 or more," a BOM spokesperson said.

"Tomorrow is the same. For both days though an approaching trough is bringing a slight chance of showers and storms.

"It will bring a southerly change which will really cool the whole Coast down, sunny and 28 is expected.

"But the weekend will really be hot and unstable ad very humid."

This morning coastal waters are looking at north west winds of 10-15 knots, increasing gradually throughout the day, into 20-25 by this afternoon.

"Later this evening they will be around 30 plus," the spokesperson said.

"We have issued a strong wind warning for tonight and into tomorrow.

"Swells will be below a metre but it is the wind for boaties to watch out for. Tomorrow is a similar story early, 20-25 knots.

"Then that southerly change will bring 20-30 knots, pretty strong and gusterly change. The change in direction will be quite a concern."
