Hinterland one of the nation's best foodie hotspots

AUSTRALIAN Traveller Magazine has named the Sunshine Coast hinterland in the nation's top 10 weekend foodie hotspots.

The country charm, fresh produce and gourmet cuisine contributed to the Coast standing alongside destinations such as Margaret River and north-west Tasmania.

"The Sunshine Coast hinterland is becoming a star in its own right," magazine editor Georgia Rickard said.

Ms Rickard said Spicers Clovelly's Long Apron at Montville was a standout representation of a gourmet getaway which attracts guests from across the country.

Long Apron executive chef and manager Cameron Matthews said it was an honour to be singled out.

"To have the Coast up there is huge. We have so many producers, chefs and restaurants being recognised," he said. "We are all marching to the same beat here.''

Ms Rickard also named Flame Hill Vineyard at Montville, Palmwoods Homegrown Cafe, Eumundi Markets and Maison de Provence at Cooroy as must-visit restaurants.

The top five

  • Sunshine Coast hinterland
  • Bowral, New South Wales
  • Geelong, Victoria
  • Huon Valley, Tasmania
