Nambour man wins trip to World Cup
EVER since Arun George was a child he has dreamed of being in the stadium to see Brazil win the FIFA World Cup.
He never thought picking a set of Continental tyres at Bob Jane T-Marts Nambour store might get him there.
The Nambour resident won a "trip of a lifetime", worth about $10,500, to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after entering in the Continental's FIFA World Cup promotion.
"I love soccer and cannot believe that in just a few months I'll be heading off to Brazil to cheer on the world's best in my favourite sport at the 2014 FIFA World Cup," he said.
"I was due to change my tyres when I saw the offer and I am a big soccer fan so I didn't go for any other tyre.
"I was quite surprised. I didn't expect to win."
Mr George won a double holiday package including flights, accommodation and a FIFA World Cup Match experience.
He will be cheering from the stands at the first match in round 16 at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on June 28. One needs to be lucky to secure a ticket to the event as the public must apply for a ticket.
The package includes a trip to the Christ the Redeemer statue, which sits on top of Corcovado Mountain. He will also visit Sugarloaf Mountain.
"The trip, and just being in the stadium, is a dream come true and watching a World Cup, and that it is in Brazil, just tops it off," he said.
As a child Mr George would set his alarm to watch all the games of the World Cup, no matter the time.
"I watched all the games. Even when I used to go to school, I used to stay up late and probably fall asleep in the classroom," he said.
