Hoons cop heat from our readers
AFTER a water cooler debate about hooning in Rockhampton spread across the APN network, Coast readers of the Daily made sure they had their say on the issue.
From frustration at hoons on the road to disappointment at a lack of opportunities for car enthusiasts, plenty of you made your views known on our Facebook page.
"Build a local race track," James Fuller wrote.
The debate raged over whether to allow controlled environments, crack down on the hoons, and even turned to how to deal with hoons.
"I agree! Crush the cars. I think they would rather have the thrill of illegal racing ... it won't be so exciting if they kill someone," Kel Tyz Williamson said.
Not all agreed though.
"Crush them ... not sell them at auction and put the money back into state coffers where it can go to improving road safety, education etc etc? They still lose the car anyway. What you are advocating is so vindictively punitive it loses a lot of its credibility as sound policy," Harry Perrier wrote.
There were a number of hoon "hot spots" also identified by locals.
Anning Ave at Golden Beach, as well as the Ocean Dr, Twin Waters, roundabouts and the Moffat Beach industrial area were among those identified by residents as areas police should target.
