CALOUNDRA

The decision of retiring LNP member Mark McArdle who held Caloundra since 2004 not to run in the October 31 election more than 18 months ago has given voters plenty of time to prepare for a new representative. And Mr McArdle believes it will be a battle. The LNP has selected Stuart Coward to maintain its grip on the electorate. His challengers include Labor's Jason Hunt, the Green's Raelene Ellis, IMOP's Belinda Hart, PHON's Luke Poland, UAP's Trevor Gray and Independents Matty Johnston and Mike Jessop.

NOOSA

Independent Sandy Bolton was elected to represent Noosa in State Government in 2017, a year after she narrowly missed out on becoming mayor in the local government elections.

As an Independent, Ms Bolton could be holding the power of balance if this election results in a hung parliament. She will face off against Labor's Mark Denham, LNP's James Blevin and Rhonda Prescott from the Greens.

GLASS HOUSE

Thursday, October 15, 7.30pm,

Livestreamed at sunshinecoastdaily.com.au

LNP member Andrew Powell has faced strong competition at the past two elections from Labor's Brent Hampstead and the coming vote shapes to be a similar contest.

Mr Powell has held the seat since 2009, having defended a slim margin against Mr Hampstead at the 2017 election. Other challengers this year include Andrew McLean for The Greens and Graeme Campbell for Pauline Hanson's One Nation.
