IT'S been months in the making, but the day everyone has been waiting for has almost arrived.
IKEA will open the doors to its North Lakes store on Thursday at 9am.
It will be the 10th IKEA store to open in Australia, and it will bring Sunshine Coast shoppers 50km closer to the Swedish DIY furniture giant.
For months 300 workers have been building furniture and setting up the 63 display rooms.
Set over two levels the store sits adjacent to Westfield North Lakes and the two buildings will be adjoined by a concourse, and has a 400-plus seat restaurant.
IKEA claim the North Lakes store will be one of the most sustainable stores in the country, built with a solar panel energy system estimated to generate approximately a quarter of the energy consumed by the store.
It will also include a food composter and an integrated LED lighting which consumes around 85% less energy than other lighting.
Store manager Stefano Bizzarri said he was expecting a huge turnout in first days following the store's opening.
