YOUR SAY: Immunise and protect our children and others

AS A FORMER nurse of many years' experience, I read the letter from Frank Davis (June 11) with such mixed feelings of sadness and anger.

Perhaps our friend should ask "What happened to create the opportunity to close all units and isolation hospitals in our 'fortunate' western world in the 1950s?"

Steady immunisation from the late 30s and 40s against so many infections that produced such life threatening complications.

Having nursed in isolation hospitals I can say with conviction, diphtheria, measles, scarlet fever and more - all with their complications - can be life threatening.

When I joined the nursing staff at the then Chermside Chest Hospital in 1960, it was used to investigate and treat tuberculosis successfully both now, and for many years.

I do agree we need to heed the masses of processed and denatured foods invading our lives and which we regrettably accept as normal.

We should remember in today's society the children of less thoughtful parents need to be protected for their own sake and others.
