YOUR LETTERS: Importance of organ donation must be discussed

I'M A student of Mountain Creek State High School.

As a part of Year 12 health education we are focusing on organ donation and creating awareness throughout the community.

Within the community people are not aware of the importance of being on the organ donation register. It is no longer shown on a person's driver's licence. We feel it is important to make the community aware of this important cause.

Last year, 1177 Australians received an organ transplants through the generosity of 378 organ donors whose families agreed to donation at the time of their loved one's death.

My grandfather has received the generous donation of corneas in which the operation has needed to be done four times.

Organ donation is a generous process that improves the life of one who is suffering. It is important to make our community aware of the procedures and processes involved in organ donation, to enable people to make informed decisions.

Life is a gift, who knows who could be next?
