LAWN BOWLS: Coolum Beach's Marilyn Clayton is eager to press her claims a for a state title after an impressive display at an invitation event at Sunnybank on Sunday.

Her team, which included club-mate Brenda Balchin along with Val Jackson and Ann Maree Peart, claimed a 30-18 win in a simulated Test against state squad members Cass Millerick, Sam Wilson, Dee Robertson and Bolivia Millerick.

"It was nice to be asked to play in it for a start because there is a lot of good bowlers around at the moment," she said.

"We were hoping to give them (opponents) a good hit-out before they represent Queensland (at the Australian Sides Championships at South Australia next month) and I think we managed that."

Clayton is eager to carry her form to the state championships at the Gold Coast in May.

She will compete in pairs and fours, after previously claiming triples titles there with club-mates Louise Witton and Liza Burgess in 2012 and 2013.

"I'd like to try and scrape through with another Queensland title, that would be nice," she said.

Her pairs partner will be Balchin. The duo won a state champion of champions pairs crown in 2015.

In fours, she will play alongside club-mates Annica McGill, Witton and Balchin.

Clayton, the mother of Australian representative Kelsey Cottrell, has had success in fours before, winning a state champion of champions title last year, with Witton, Balchin and Burgess.

"We've been playing against men and have been going really well," she said.

"We just get along really well and that helps."
