Indee takes another look at its line-up

THE Indee is giving its long-standing July season of Comedy & Consomme the flick this year, just in case the Sunshine Coast’s winter happens on those two weekends.

Last year C&C audiences froze under the weight of the coldest night of the year, combined with power failure to the building (or outage, as the hard-wired among us love to call it).

After our non-autumn, it’s impossible to know which seasonal way to jump.

I don’t know a lot about CO2 emissions but I’m inclined to believe in global warming when, this week, I see flies hanging about the pot of pea and ham soup, asking each other what it is.

What it is is game-changing.

So C&C is on the backburner.

By juggling hob-tops, The Vicar of Dibley is being pulled to a front burner for later in the year.

Dibley got ditched last year when various cast members dropped with multiple attacks of lurgy.

Trouble is, not all of them will be available for the next tilt at it, due to other commitments (well, that’s the excuse being offered) and replacements need to have a passing resemblance to the TV characters: for example, a two-metre tall, heavyweight, bald, deep base-voiced Alice just doesn’t have the cutes of the original.

With casting that loose, you’d need to hang name signs around each character’s neck.

If you’re a bit of a Dibley lookalike (other than Alice), phone 5472 8200 to arrange an audition.

There’ll also be another one-act season to match Don’t I Know Your From Somewhere?.

A trio of comedies always seems to hit the spot.

And again The Indee will be making the promise that they are truly funny.

Too often plays get billed as comedies, only to have the audience walk away believing they would have laughed louder at their own autopsies.
