WE SAY: It’s our way, or the highway

OUR VIEW: WHAT do we want? A six-lane highway. When do we want it? Now.

The Daily's online readers have spoken and their No.1 priority for our region is a six-lane Bruce Hwy upgrade from Caboolture to the Coast.

RELATED: YOUR CONVERSATION: I'll take the six lane highway thanks!

Mayor Mark Jamieson put the call out to the community to share views on the priority projects nominated under the Strong Choices Investment Program: North Coast rail upgrade, six-lane Bruce Hwy upgrade, Sunshine Coast Mwy and Nicklin Way road upgrades, an improved bus service and more entertainment facilities.

If the state government's assets sales go ahead, the Coast council wants to ensure the region receives its fair share of $8.6 billion to be set aside for infrastructure.

More than 39% of The Daily's online readers said they felt the six-lane highway upgrade was warranted first, over the other wishlist projects.

With the upcoming school holidays, we can expect the usual Bruce Hwy "parking lot" from just north of Brisbane to the Sunshine Mwy with no relief in sight.

Maybe we should invite Premier Campbell Newman on a road trip to the Coast at that time to experience the joys of the exhaustingly long trip first-hand.
