Jet boat rides coming to Mooloolaba
A NEW tourism venture is set to give thrillseekers a "white-knuckle" experience, ducking, diving, spinning and racing through the waters off Mooloolaba.
Mooloolaba Jet Boat will take groups of up to 12 for a turbo-charged offshore thrill ride, travelling at up to 30 knots, or 60kmh.
The enclosed, custom-built boat allows passengers to enjoy the sights and experience the fast-paced action while staying perfectly dry.
It is the latest venture for Paddy and Jerry van Driel-Vis, who have developed business models for water activities at Mooloolaba.
They also own Coastline Cruises and Mooloolaba Fish and Crab Deep Sea Charters.
"We just love getting people out on the water and showing them a fun time," Jerry said.
"We tailor the 60-minute experience to the group we have on board. We can be as wild as they want.
"And the best part is, no one gets wet.
"Our main pilot Rob Longford is fantastic. You won't see these tricks anywhere else. Instead of spinning up the face of the wave, he's mastered the manoeuvre of starting at the top of the wave and pointing 45 degrees and spinning.
"It's the weirdest feeling and the best experience."
While cruising and fishing trips are weather-dependent, Jerry and Paddy say the jet-boating experience can be enjoyed in all conditions.
The pilots will use the waves to their best advantage as they cruise from the Wharf Mooloolaba out about 600m from shore.
Jerry said a flat base meant there was very little environmental impact and most of the time the boat sits only 3cm in the water.
The boat departs at 11am and 1pm every day.
