Jobs growth boosted by major new factory

JOBS and business growth have been boosted by ABP Group's most recent expansion at its premises in Carole Park.

ABP Group employs more than 40 people at its factory and managing director Rob Kneebone thanked the employees for their contribution to the company's success.

"We are a family business which is committed to a stable and long term workforce," Mr Kneebone said.

"We have had six second-generation apprentices - that's six fathers who have proudly seen their sons follow them into this business and I'm enormously proud of this fact.

"Our business and our staff have a mutually beneficial relationship and we strive to maintain this balance."

He said ABP Group was proud to be a Queensland owned and operated business.

For more than 50 years ABP Allboards have been producing visual boards, toilet partitions, fibre cement products and internal fixtures for the Australian market.

Mr Kneebone was appointed managing director in 2009 after a close relationship with the business since 1985.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale was on hand for the opening of ABP Group's modern facility and highlighted the value of supporting local businesses.

"In times of rising unemployment and economic uncertainty, it is tremendous to see this family-owned manufacturing business bucking the trend by competing with imports," the Mayor said.

"ABP Group is backing the future of Ipswich by their continued investment here in Carole Park. Local manufacturing provides a welcome boost to the economy by creating jobs. I urge everyone to support companies which demonstrate such a strong commitment to the local community."

He also welcomed ABP Group's sustainable approach to business, including its recent investment in a 100kW solar system.

"Council is committed to protecting the environment; we believe that planning for the environment is planning for the future and it's great to see ABP Group committing to a sustainable power solution."
