Julian’s ride is near perfect

SURFING: Coolum's Julian Wilson has produced a near-perfect, last-gasp ride on Fiji's famous Cloudbreak to topple former world champion CJ Hobgood.

Staring down the barrel of a Round Two exit, Wilson produced a clutch ride late in the heat to nail a 9.5/10, and send him into the third round, where he dispatched of Hawaiian rookie Keanu Asing and Californian Kolohe Andino by a narrow 0.59 points.

The dual wins propelled Wilson into the fourth round, which will get under way after the completion of the final six heats of Round Two expected to wrap up in building swell this morning.
