JUST IN: Lightning secures key signing
NETBALL: It has a head coach, a CEO and now the Sunshine Coast Lightning have appointed Kylee Byrne to the role of Assistant Coach for the 2017 inaugural season.
Byrne is the first addition to a Lightning coaching staff that will be led by Head Coach Noeline Taurua.
The Queensland-based Byrne has 10 years' experience coaching the game, most recently as Netball Queensland's Elite Development Coach where she has been responsible for overseeing a program to identify and develop the next generation of netballers.
Byrne joins the Lightning having also held several positions with Netball Australia for underage teams including under-21s, 19s and 17s, making her the perfect candidate to work with Taurua on nurturing the young talent of the Lightning squad.
Byrne has also had experience at the top level, having been an assistant coach at Queensland Firebirds (2006-2008), netball coach at the Australian Institute of Sport (2010-2012) and head coach at the Queensland Fusion (2008-2009 and 2012-2014).
"I am extremely excited to be coaching at this level again, especially alongside such a successful and respected coach as Noeline,” Byrne said.
"To be connected with a professional organisation like Melbourne Storm and working closely with the University of the Sunshine Coast is a fantastic opportunity.
"Having another leading sports team in Queensland and especially being the first national elite team on the Sunshine Coast means so much to the netball community and it's taking our sport to another level. Noeline has put together an amazing program and I cannot wait to get started.”
