Kim steps up to beat best 'crossers' in ITU world

TRIATHLON: Noosa's Kim Beckinsale has won her age group race at the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championship at the Snowy Mountains.

Beckinsale, a renowned local adventure racer and endurance specialist, claimed victory in the 45/49 women's division in 3hrsn55sec.

She hit the line with a considerable lead.

Held at Lake Crackenback, the event featured a 1500m swim, a 30km ride on grippy singletracks and a 10km run with pinchy climbs and descents.

"The course out there today was lightning fast - perfect conditions, everything went really well,” she said.

She told the International Triathlong Union: "There was so much support on the course, thanks everyone for cheering me on, it's just so great to have that Aussie support.

"It feels really special, we've had a big week at Noosa coaching and training for this week.

" I probably started doing off-road about 11 to 12 years ago and it's probably taken a long time for people to get into it.

"It's just so exciting to see so many people here having a go and so many Australian's stepping up and getting into the off-road.

"The overwhelming support was for the course - everyone was full of praise for the effort and passion for the race organisers have invested,” she said.

Beckinsale is amid a host of Coast triathletes at the event.

Many of them are Noosa Tri Club members.

"It (the win) feels really special, we've had a big week at Noosa coaching and training for this week,” she

"I think you just get to be amongst nature and breath fresh air, that's what makes it really special,” Beckinbsale said.
