Kira's backing Sarah after sugary MasterChef exit

THE dreaded croquembouche claimed another victim on MasterChef tonight.

Gold Coast mum Kira Westwick was eliminated from the reality cooking show after taking on the complicated tower of sugar and pastry.

Westwick was given just one third of the recipe and without the instructions for choux pastry she lost the pressure test against Colin Sheppard and Jamie Fleming.

"It was my worst nightmare," she told APN.

"I was hoping for a short challenge and when the croquembouche came out I was just like 'you've got to be kidding me'."

The French dessert, a cone-shaped assembly of profiteroles covered in caramel and spun sugar, became a household name after its debut in the first season of MasterChef in 2009.

"I made one just to say I'd done it before, but I certainly didn't remember the recipe," she said.

"It took me a lot longer than three hours and it was a third of the size.

"When I was the first one to turn out that croquembouche (in the challenge) I can't tell you the elation and triumph I felt, but someone had to go home."

The 32-year-old said she kept a daily gratitude journal to cope with the emotional rollercoaster she experienced while filming the show.

"If I didn't remember why I was there and why I was doing it then I would have left a week in," she said.

Westwick said fellow Queensland mum Sarah Todd poses a real threat to the other contestants since returning to the competition last week.

"I definitely see Sarah and Ben as really strong competition," she said.

"There were a lot of people who weren't too happy with her coming back.

"I think if Sarah can be consistent she is definitely one of the most skilled cooks there."

The mum-of-two, who released her own Wholesome Kids cook book before going on the show, now has her own YouTube channel and is going into local schools to share her message of clean eating.

"I want to show parents how simple and quick whole foods can be," she said.

The show continues tomorrow night with a beer-themed immunity challenge.

MasterChef airs Sundays through Thursdays at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
