Kirk signs up for a shot at the Ladies Masters

THE Sunshine Coast's Katherine Kirk will vie for her second RACV Ladies Masters title in February.

The 2009 Ladies Masters Champion has confirmed she will tee it up at the RACV Royal Pines Resort, on the Gold Coast, from February 12-15.

The two-time LPGA winner is coming off another solid season on that tour.

She played 26 events, made the cut 21 times and posted two top-10 finishes, with her best finish a tie for fourth at the Marathon Classic.

Kirk finished 60th on the money list with $US266,743.

Speaking from the US, Kirk spoke about how much she enjoyed the Gold Coast event and what it would mean to win again.

"The Ladies Masters is one of my favourite events because the crowds are always so supportive and it reminds me of my roots and all the people who've helped me in my career," she said.

"Plus, being a past champion means you always have fond memories of the event, the people that make it happen, and the course.

"The best part about playing in the Masters is having my family and friends cheer me on.

"There's definitely something extra special about playing in my home state of Queensland and knowing the locals are pulling for you.

"The standard of play has really improved on all women's tours, especially over the last five years, so to win a second Ladies Masters would confirm that I'm doing the right things and continuing to improve.

"It would also validate the hard work and support of my family and team."

Tournament chairman Bob Tuohy said: "Katherine brings a lot of energy to the Ladies Masters and is a very fierce competitor.

"It will be great to have her back in search of her second title and the $50,000 bonus on offer for the 2015 champion."

Kirk joins defending champion Cheyenne Woods and South African Lee-Anne Pace in the field. More high-profile entries will be confirmed in coming weeks.

Tickets for the RACV Ladies Masters are on sale at Ticketmaster.com.au.

Children under 16 will get in for free if accompanied by an adult.
