Lake MacDonald property an inspiration
FOR 23 years internationally acclaimed artist Spencer worked mostly from the jetty on his island in Noosa River.
Wanting a change of inspiration he left Makepeace Island behind and moved to this sprawling lakefront home on 6.22ha in the Noosa hinterland.
For 10 years his appreciation of the rural scenes has been incorporated into his artwork, together with his distinctive yachting and island-life paintings. Now he is seeking another change, this time to be near the ocean.
As a result Ke-Mahi - which is Hawaiian for "the farm'' - is being presented to the market.
It is situated in a private lane serving four properties and, according to marketing agent John Tucker, not one has been on the market for 10 years.
Gated from the bitumen lane, the rolling green of the horse paddocks slopes down to the water of Lake Macdonald. It is like being on an island as the five-bedroom house is on a ridge and the positioning gives the impression of water on three sides.
From the spacious main living areas you can look out and the water seems to come right under the house. Yet you have the benefit of lush surrounds that evoke the lifestyle of the South Pacific. Indeed, there is a lagoon with its own jetty and small island to retreat to.
And the grounds include substantial sculptured works of art, a testament to the people the artist has met.
The elevated position of the house attracts lovely breezes as well as the peaceful outlook. What you soon appreciate is that while looking at a lake there is not another house in view.
Entry is by way of a north-east-facing veranda and deck. The swimming pool and gazebo add to the South Seas or Balinese feel to the grounds, which include a rainforest garden with walking tracks above the home and provide a private barrier.
Fall in love with the entry and step into the huge living room with soft lime-washed raked ceilings, split-system air-conditioning and stacker doors on two walls opening out to the wide deck looking over the lake and lagoon.
This entertaining deck and veranda wraps to the east.
A tiled kitchen and dining area is off the living room. An island bench with granite top serves as a breakfast bar and a place where people gather.
Set in timber cabinetry is a Miele ceramic cooktop, under-bench oven and dishwasher. There is an open butler's area, icemaker fridge, roll-down appliance cupboard and nook.
To the north-east is a sitting room or studio with an ensuite so it could be that extra bedroom.
On the other side of the living is an air-conditioned office or bedroom looking out to the lake. This is a nice room to write in or to enjoy a good book.
The main suite comes with split-system air-conditioning and a walk-in wardrobe and sliding doors to its own deck with lake views.
A step-up bath in the ensuite looks out to the cabana and pool and there is a separate shower.
Separate living or guest accommodation comes with a kitchenette and full-size bathroom and a large tiled living room with sliding doors on two sides opening to a paved courtyard and the grounds.
Step through to two very comfortable bedrooms, one with windows to the lake, a walk-in wardrobe and a built-in.
The artist's studio is off the triple garage.
On the property are three dams, a quality bore and 20,000 gallons of rainwater storage.
