'Larry' is not just a beer, he's a mate, says Coast brewer

FORGET bland technical beer descriptions like IPA, ale, and lager - local brewers have sidestepped convention and are giving each of their beers a personality.

Enter Your Mate Larry.

Larry's a likeable bloke, says Your Mates Brewing Co co-owner Matt Hepburn.

"Different mates have different characteristics whether it be bold or quiet, or bitter or sweet so it's just playing off that really," he said.

"Larry is a happy guy. He's happy as Larry. He's the one person that everybody loves."

It was a fitting character for the young brewery's first pale ale, which has been in refinement since it launched late last year.

"We've been tweaking the recipe since then to what we'd like it to be," Mr Hepburn said.

Happy-go-lucky Larry will be on tap.

Larry will be on tap at a bunch of Coast venues from Monday, December 5, including Drift Bar in Caloundra, The Pocket at Moffat Beach, Taps Mooloolaba, Corbin's in Maroochydore, Moto Bar in Noosa, Peregian Beach Hotel and Your Mates' own establishment The Basement, in Nambour.

"We've been sitting on this for so long," Mr Hepburn said. "It's been waiting. We've been biding our time until we were really happy with it."

Artist Lachlan Olive from Sunshine Beach designed Larry's image, which will appear on the decal atop his beer tap.

"There's so many beer companies where the name doesn't actually mean anything," Mr Hepburn said.

He said he couldn't wait to hear people ask for a Larry.
