LETTER: Coast owes John Jones a debt of gratitude

IT WAS with a degree of sadness I read of the passing of John Jones, one of the best administrators the Sunshine Coast Newspaper Group ever had.

Known affectionately to his staff and many friends as "JJ", he was a vital cog in the development of the Sunshine Coast from a sleepy fishing village to the thriving metropolis it is today.

Overseeing the introduction of the Sunshine Coast Daily and relocation of their offices and printing presses to Maroochydore will probably be regarded as his greatest achievement, but John's involvement with the Sunshine Coast TAFE College, council, Sunshine Coast Tourism Board and Rotary clubs in Nambour and Maroochydore indicates the strong commitment he had to his community.

When the history of the Sunshine Coast is written, John Jones will be remembered as a leader who transformed it to what it is today.

Vale John Jones.
