I HAD to laugh/cry on reading Bevan Conolly's homophobic letter (Daily, June 23).

Just when you start to reflect on the progress we have made, this letter showed exactly how far we have to go in establishing equal rights for members of the LGBTI community.

Bevan, people like you are the reason we need the Safe Schools Coalition and LGBTI members of parliament giving voice to to the issues of discrimination that so many citizens of this country, and their families, are facing.

You cannot imagine the suffering and death that has been caused by associating homosexuality with sin and mental illness.

How far are you willing to go to put the members of the LGBTI community in their so called place?

Shall we bring back execution for male homosexuality as per Leviticus?

Shall we also bring back slavery and polygamy as well? Both of these were important social institutions in biblical times.

The bible was written by human beings who were allegedly divinely inspired but please try to remember the words to that great song “All Creatures Great and Small” and I beg you to take them to heart - “The Lord God made us all”.
