THE Noosa District State High School annual Celebration of Excellence evening acknowledged and publicly recognised the hard work and successes of the students in the fields of academia, culture and sport through the presentation of awards.

Parents, students and teachers also enjoyed entertainment from the school's concert band and talented Year 11 musician student Jamison Kehl.

Former NDSHS student-turned-actor Steven Rooke delivered a keynote speech on his life post-school and provided the audience with many laughs and personal insights.

Mr Rooke graduated from NDSHS in 1996 and completed a Fine Arts degree at the Queensland University of Technology before landing guest appearances on shows such as All Saints and Home and Away, and later having regular appearances on Always Greener. Mr Rooke also appeared in the films Blurred, Footy Legends and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and acted in more than 350 individual performances on 50 different stages around Australia.

"One of the most important life hacks I have learnt along the way is to always be true to yourself and never forget about the importance of integrity,” Mr Rooke said.

Retired teacher Elizabeth Garbacz was brought to tears, with Mr Rooke acknowledging and thanking her for the great impression she had on him, instilling within him the importance of being a gentleman and striving to achieve his best. "You saw that I had the potential to be so much better. Ms Garbacz was the best teacher I could have ever asked for,” Mr Rooke said.

The top performing Year 12 students were awarded for their efforts and those achieving outstanding results received community-sponsored awards and prizes.
