Lightning urges you to join their super netball journey

THE Sunshine Coast Lightning has star players, a renowned coach, major sponsors and a boutique stadium in the works.

Now, the region's first professional sports team to compete in a national competition urges you to join them on their Suncorp Super Netball journey.

The University of the Sunshine Coast-based outfit will welcome its first legion of fans on Monday, when inaugural membership packages go on sale via the club's website.

Tickets for the season will follow shortly after, on sale from mid-January.

With only 76 days to go until round one, there is plenty of excitement surrounding the campaign.

The Lightning's prized goal shooter Caitlin Bassett is itching for action.

"I can't wait to be a part of it and I think it's going to be awesome for fans who rock up to our games," she said.

The team is coached by Noeline Taurua, who guided Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic to the trans-Tasman club championship in 2012.

COACH HASN'T SEEN PRE-SEASON INTENSITY LIKE THIS BEFORE

She has assembled a squad packed with talent, including the likes of England representative Geva Mentor and electric mid-courter Laura Langman.

The 10 players have been assigned numbers, in the order they signed with the club, so Diamonds prospect Stephanie Wood will sport the one shirt.

The team will play at the university, where upgrades will provide a unique arena for 2000 spectators.

"It's going to be a fantastic venue to play at," Bassett said.

And there are high hopes the side, which is a joint venture of the Melbourne Storm and University of the Sunshine Coast, will do well in its inaugural campaign.

"We're looking for a premiership in our first year, no doubt," she said.

"There's some high class players in the team and we're going to be pushing each other really hard over the pre-season to make sure we're fully prepared for the season ahead."

There are a variety of season membership packages available, starting from just $50.

"We're hoping members jump on board," Bassett said. "Then later they can brag to all their friends that they signed up for the first year of the Sunshine Coast Lightning."

To ensure all fans are given the best chance to attend games, memberships will not include match tickets.

Instead, members can choose which matches they want to attend under an exclusive members' priority booking period and purchase discounted tickets.

The packages come with a host of extras.
