Lizard Island croc attack may not have happened

A CROCODILE attack at Lizard Island in far northern Queensland may never have happened.

Environment Minister Dr Steven Milestold AAP he had since received information that the man's injuries were "not consistent" with an attack.

"That suggests that something else has happened there," he said.

"I'm not going to get into what that might or might not be."

Dr Miles said departmental officers had not been able to locate a crocodile "that would support the earlier reports".

"The wildlife officers are of the view that there isn't a crocodile there appropriate to be removed," he said.

It's now believed the snorkeler involved may have hit his head and become confused.
