LNP housing plan for Moranbah

CABINET has used the Whitsunday cabinet meeting to sign off on a plan to alleviate Moranbah's ongoing housing crisis.

Meeting in Airlie Beach, Premier Campbell Newman joined Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney in making the announcement.

Mr Seeney said over the next few months hundreds of blocks of land would be made available in Moranbah.

"We will release 185 blocks of land in the beginning and well over 1000 in the next 12 months," he said.

"(This will) get land supply going, take the pressure off the communities and take local governments forward."

Discussing ongoing unrest among the State's union members, Premier Newman said the government was prepared to be reasonable in negations with the union in regard to job cuts.

"We've said that all along," he said.

"What has concerned us is we have had many of the unions wanting not only job security but very large pay rises above inflation.

"That's having your cake and eating it too."

He said it was particularly difficult situation given the financial crisis in the States finances.

"We are prepared to negotiate," he said.
