Broken promise speaks for itself: Labor candidate

EMPLOYMENT figures and the state budget announcement will speak for themselves when it comes to the next Queensland election, Gladstone Labor candidate Glenn Butcher said.

"Labor stands for jobs, the LNP stands for asset sales and record electricity prices," he said.

"After promising to drive unemployment down to 4%, Campbell Newman has overseen a massive increase in the unemployment rate to 6.3%.

"That's a level not seen since the global financial crisis."

Unemployment is the focus of the Opposition, which provided ABS data indicating there were 11,000 fewer full-time jobs in Queensland in April this year than when the Newman LNP Government was elected.

"We have a youth unemployment crisis in this state, up from 11.9% at the last election to 13.4% under Campbell Newman," Mr Butcher said.

The date of the state election is yet to be announced.
