Main Beach is just tops
NOOSA'S Main Beach has been voted among the top 10 beaches in Australia by a TripAdvisor poll.
But the question has to be asked, after a week of perfect point waves right on our door stop, why does a Whitehaven Beach - which is beautiful, dazzling white, but remote in the far-flung Whitsundays - get to be number one?
Noosa, that is hugged by one of the best coastal national parks in the state and faces the spectacular Coloured Sands of Cooloola, has come in at number nine.
It is just ahead of Coolangatta but behind Torquise Beach at Exmouth, Cable Beach at Broome, Shelly Beach Sydney, Burleigh Heads, Four Mile Beach Port Douglas, Manly Beach and Cottesloe Beach near Perth.
And while he is delighted with this accolade, Tourism Noosa chairman Steve McPharlin said Main Beach has been named tops in other consumer-based surveys, including best beach holiday.
"We're certainly grateful to be in the top 10, but I do think we should be close to number one. It's another accolade, so we're happy."
Tourism Noosa general manager Damien Massingham said: "We have always known Noosa Main Beach was of a high standard but to be named ahead of many other Australian coastal destinations as one of the best, is a wonderful acknowledgement and tribute to our region.
"This pristine beach offers a timeless and iconic experience enjoyed by not only locals but also the many visitors to the Noosa area".
Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd CEO Simon Ambrose said the recognition was a win on behalf of all of the Coast.
"These awards recognise the most popular beaches as decided by millions of TripAdvisor travellers, and the Sunshine Coast is pleased to see Noosa Beach make the list for our region", Mr Ambrose said.
"For Noosa to beat other well-known beach destinations throughout Australia proves that, the Sunshine Coast truly is a fantastic place for a beach holiday. Noosa and the Sunshine Coast's beautiful beaches are a big drawcard for attracting visitors to our region," he said.
