Man charged after stolen car breaks down

A 37-year-old man made the police's job a lot easier after the allegedly stolen car he was in ran out of fuel.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to Nambour Connection Rd at 10am on Tuesday after receiving reports of a woman creating a disturbance.

Police said the woman was in the front passenger seat of a Holden Commodore which had been stolen from Coorparoo on Friday.

The woman told police a man had left the vehicle, which was parked on the side of Nambour Connection Rd, to get petrol for the car.

A short time later police were approached by another man who claimed a backpack had been stolen from the back of his ute nearby.

Police searched the Commodore and found a number of items alleged to have been stolen.

They then searched for the man and found him shortly after hiding in bushland at Woombye.

The Acacia Ridge man was charged with offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, possessing tainted property, trespassing and attempted stealing.

He is expected to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
