Man to face manslaughter charge over 97-year-old's death
A 52-YEAR-OLD man will face an Ipswich court accused of manslaughter after police upgraded the charges against him.
The man allegedly crashed into 10 different vehicles in a three kilometre stretch about 8.45am on September 7 last year.
The incident, on Warwick Rd and Moffatt St in West Ipswich, did not end until members of the public restrained the man when he allegedly stopped his vehicle outside a school and attempted to steal another car.
Police said a 97-year-old woman injured in the crash died five days later on September 12.
QPS announced today it had upgraded the charge related to her death to manslaughter.
He first appeared in September 8 charged with 16 different offences, including two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, common assault, attempted unlawful entry to a motor vehicle and unlawful entry of a vehicle for committing an indictable offence.
Police said he would appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on August 10.
